Savannah claims to be the most haunted city in the United States, But so do Williamsburg, Virginia; St. Augustine, Florida; and Charleston, South Carolina. In fact, most cities popular for historical tourism are rich in ghost lore. Rumors of hauntings are valuable for these old coastal cities because they illustrate, for true believers and those willing to suspend doubt, how a given city retains the past.
