Cervantes y Avellaneda: historia de una enemistad (primera parte)

This article analyzes the possible reasons why Cervantes postponed the publishing of the Second Part of Don Quixote;, the circumstances in which Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda’s Quixote was conceived and published (both print runs in Tarragona, 1614); the critics and readers’ reactions to this work; its influence on 1615 Don Quixote, and the reasons why Avellaneda may have changed his admiring attitude towards Cervantes in the novel for the insulting tone of the prologue.Se analizan las posibles razones por las que Cervantes dilató la publicación de la Segunda parte del Quijote, las circunstancias en que se gestó y editó el Quijote de Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda (las dos impresiones de Tarragona, 1614), las reacciones de críticos y lectores ante esta obra, el influjo sobre el Quijote de 1615 y las razones por las que el continuador pudo cambiar la actitud admirativa presente en el relato por la insultante que se puede percibir en el prólogo
