Producción de aceite y vino en el interior del valle del Vinalopó (Alicante) en época romana

The creation and development of the Roman colony of Ilici Augusta (La Alcudia, Elche) in the last third of the first century BC gave rise to a deep redesigning of the surrounding countryside, which was mainly dedicated to agricultural exploitation. It affected all the lands along the fluvial basin of the Vinalopó river, a natural economic and cultural scope northbound of Ilici Augusta. It had the support of the oppidum of “El Monastil” (Elda), which turned into a civitas peregrina named Elo. The new economic exploitation was organized from this civitas peregrina, including the new structure which emerged after the implementation of the centuriatio and the Roman division into plots of that colony, also joined by some villas and fundi. The latter were in charge of obtaining mainly oil, but also wine. Both oil and wine went for local consumption and not for trading in the medium or long haul. The material traces which prove this Roman agricultural activity are studied in this article.La creación y desarrollo de la colonia romana de Ilici Augusta (La Alcudia, Elche), en el último tercio del siglo I a.C., dio lugar a una profunda remodelación del territorio rural próximo, dedicado a la explotación agrícola, que afectó a todas las tierras del corredor fluvial del Vinalopó, proyección natural económica y cultural al norte de dicha urbe ilicitana, donde contó con el apoyo del oppidum de El Monastil (Elda), que fue reconvertido en una civitas peregrina denominada Elo, desde donde se jerarquizó y organizó la explotación económica, incluida en la nueva estructura surgida al implantar la centuriatio y el parcelario romano de aquélla colonia, en el que se integraron varias villae y fundi, encargadas de obtener aceite, principalmente, pero también vino, que se destinaron fundamentalmente al consumo local, sin comercialización a media o larga distancia. Se estudian aquí las huellas materiales que evidencian esta actividad agraria romana
