EL ANTIGUO PASO DE LA CENA DE ALICANTE OBRA DE ANTONIO RIUDAVEST (1851)

The Holy Dinner float of the Holy Week procession was commissioned by the brotherhood from Alicante city which bears the abovementioned name. This float has had a hirbulent past that ended up in 1957 with the sale and dissapearance of most of the statues and religious images that it consisted of. Up to now, it was believed to be one of Francisco Salzillo's works; however, a recent documentary discovery leads to point out, beyond any possible doubt. that it was actually Antonio Riudavest, sculpter and makcer of religious images who worked in Alicante for most part of the 20th century, the genuine artist who created the Holy Dinner float.Encargado por la cofradía alicantina de La Cena, el paso del mismo nombre tuvo una historia azarosa hasta terminar en 1957 con la venta y desaparición de la mayor parte de las imágenes que lo componian. Creido hasta el presente como una posible obra de Francisco Salzillo, un reciente hallazgo documental permite asignarlo sin posible vacilación a la producción del escultor e imaginero Antonio Riudavest, activo en la provincia de Alicante durante gran parte del siglo XIX
