In this article it is shown that metaphorical utternaces in lieteratura have, among others, a cognitive end. This proposal is drawn from the more general thesis tha metaphorical utterances have acognitive value independently from the field they are produced. Such value depends on the fact that metaphor is a mechanism that allows producing, in a systematic way, non-conventional meanings (metaphorical provisional meanings) that were not available in the lingusitic competence of the speakers of the same linguistic community in that moment of the language.
