Two experimental groups of Atlantic sea bass were maintained at 19ºC during embryonic period (from fertilization until hatching). After hatching, each group was separated in two tanks of larval cultivation, that were maintained at both natural temperature and 19ºC, respectively. Natural temperature initially was ≈ 15ºC and gradually raised. In both groups the transverse area of white and red muscles was quantified, as well as the size and number of their fibres. Following hatching, prelarvae reared at higher temperature (19ºC) finished the vitelline phase earlier than prelarvae maintained at natural temperature (3 and 4 days posthatching, respectively).
