LA DISCUSIÓN SOCIOLÓGICA EN MÉXICO Y LA PERTINENCIA CONTEMPORÁNEA DE UN CLÁSICO IBEROAMERICANO: JOSÉ MEDINA ECHAVARRÍA Y LA SOCIOLOGÍA COMO CIENCIA SOCIAL CONCRETA

The main purpose of this paper is to show how theorical discussion on mexican sociology has a past-present temporal perspective that constitutes an important heritage, which is important to explore and reinterpret. This task implies to make contemporary, important streams of past knowledge that enrich the present development of sociological thought. We require a profound reflection on experience of time and space in early and late modernities, on the role of conceptual construction, and the status of sociology as a circumstantial social science. This important effort was developed by one of the most important sociologist of the Spanish exhile in Mexico in the twentieth century: José Medina Echavarría. He emphasized the importance of the historical dimension of social phenomena, and of time and space experiences in the development of conceptualization and sociological theory. He considered sociology as a concrete social science, which is a central idea for the development of sociology nowadays.El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar que la discusión teórica de la Sociología en México tiene un pasado-presente que constituye un patrimonio de conocimiento acumulado que es importante conocer, resignificar y hacer contemporáneo para incrementar la pertinencia práctica de nuestra disciplina. Esta tarea implica una reflexión sobre la experiencia del tiempo y del espacio en las modernidades temprana y tardía, sobre el papel de la construcción conceptual en la Sociología, y su estatus como ciencia social circunstanciada. Mostraremos que este tipo de reflexión fue emprendido por un importantísimo antecesor, cuya obra tuvo como ejes estas dimensiones espacio/temporales: José Medina Echavarría. Sus aportaciones sobre la sociología como ciencia social concreta y su reflexión sobre los conceptos como medios de historificación de la experiencia societal que permitía la comprensión circunstanciada de cada sociedad, son los grandes ejes que pueden ser reconducidos a una reflexión teórica, con pertinencia disciplinar y práctica en el México contemporáneo
