Violência e sofrimento social no contexto escolar: um estudo de caso em Porto Alegre, RS

The study aimed to analyze the violence and social suffering in a school in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from the teachers’ discourse, seeking to understand how the violence has been part of the relationships in the school context. It was a qualitative case study with 23 semi-structured individual interviews and a focus group with the teachers, contextualized by a one-year participant observation in the school and community. A thematic analysis of content resulted in two analytical categories, entitled “Macroviolence: repercussions of structural violence at school” and “Microviolence: the (co)production of violence in school relationships”. The findings pointed how the wide context of social exclusion and restriction of rights and opportunities (macroviolence) in which the school is inserted is reflected in the daily production of violence in relation to students (microviolence). Those relationships root in a process of stigmatization and devaluation of the students, as well as the feeling of impotence and the verticalization of actions by the teachers. Despite the scarcity, alternative approaches to the reality of the students showed the importance of actions in schools to be considered and agreed from the perspective of the community and its territoriality, seeking to face violence and social suffering.A pesquisa analisou a violência e o sofrimento social em uma escola de Porto Alegre (RS) a partir do discurso de professores, buscando compreender como a violência tem feito parte das relações no contexto escolar. Trata-se de estudo de caso qualitativo realizado por meio de 23 entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas e grupo focal com professoras, contextualizados a partir de observação participante na escola e na comunidade ao longo de um ano. A análise temática de conteúdo resultou em dois eixos analíticos: “Macroviolência: repercussões da violência estrutural na escola” e “Microviolência: a (co)produção da violência nas relações na escola”. Os achados apontaram como o contexto amplo de exclusão social e restrição de direitos e de oportunidades (macroviolências) em que a escola se insere reflete na produção cotidiana de violências na relação com os alunos (microviolências). Essas relações se enraízam num processo de estigmatização e desvalia dos alunos, bem como na sensação de impotência e na verticalização das ações pelas professoras. Apesar de escassas, aproximações alternativas à realidade dos alunos evidenciaram a importância de pensar e pactuar as ações nas escolas na perspectiva da própria comunidade e da territorialidade, buscando enfrentar a violência e o sofrimento social
