In animals, the blockade of acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), cation pore-forming membrane proteins located in the free nerve endings of group IV afferent fibres, attenuates increases in arterial pressure (AP) and sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) during muscle contraction.
