Literature which used to be widely used as mainstream English language learning material has been almost relegated to oblivion for several decades in China. This chapter offers a survey from a historical perspective of the use of literature in English language learning particularly on the tertiary education level to the present day against a background of globalization, as well as emerging signs of reviving interest in the uses of literature in English language teaching (ELT) in China
