The Post Keynesian approach to environmental economics calls into question the orthodox environmental economics concept of an efficient pollution level and its p rioritizing of price-based mechanisms over direct controls. An environmental tax may have a role to play in Post Keynesian environmental policy, but its effectiveness requires a suite of complementary policies to overcome the Post Keynesian realities of limited substitution effects, fundamental uncertainty and the problem of fina ncing new investment
