The relationship between sleep duration and obesity in type 2 diabetes (T2D) is unknown. Our aim is to assess the relationship between sleep duration and central obesity in patients with T2D. In conclusion, shorter sleep duration in WE and longer sleep duration in SA are independently associated with increased central obesity in patients with T2D. Due to the cross-sectional nature of the study the direction of the relationship and causality cannot be proven. The reasons for the ethnic differences need to be studied. Whether sleep duration manipulation would impact on central obesity remains to be examined
