This paper presents a parametric study for the ground and wall movements due to deep excavations. Analysis is carried out using the finite element method, which has the ability to simulate construction sequences and various lateral earth retaining systems accurately. The constitutive behaviour of soil is modelled within the critical state framework. The work presented in this paper concentrates on long excavations and hence a plane strain model is adopted for the finite element analysis.
