Wireless mesh networks can offer an alternative solution to conventional technologies for broadband Internet access. In this paper, the performance and implementation issues of such networks are analysed and reported. The effects of signal strength and the number of hops between transmitting and receiving nodes are also studied and discussed. The results of this investigation reveal the linear nature of the drop in throughput with respect to the number of nodes trying to establish simultaneous connections with a single node. The conditions to achieve enhancements of throughput levels by adding more nodes to the mesh are also investigated and reported
