In the field of gerontology, although participatory approaches that underscore empowerment of individuals and communities have increasingly been included, the involvement of older adults as partners in the research process itself is still largely scarce. However, a growing number of studies suggests that participatory research (PR) with older adults may hold promise for assisting in understanding and addressing some of the complex health and social problems confronted by older people while at the same time contributing to individual and community capacity building. Additionally, there is a growing focus on incorporating the needs and preferences of older people in health and social service delivery as well as public policy decision making. ...
