The foundational myth of the Castilian kingdom contains a series of events in which some heroes’ rebelliousness turns out to be fundamental in the mechanisms of rupture and distancing in regard of figures of authority. Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar and count Fernán González are the most outstanding examples in a tradition of heroic characters that has its origin in the legend of the Jueces de Castilla.
