A drenagem pretérita do Rio Camaquã na costa do Rio Grande do Sul

The analysis of highresolution seismic records (3.5 and 7.0 kHz) obtained in the Patos Lagoon revealed the presence of several buried channels that deeply dissected the Rio Grande do Sul coastal zone (Southern Brazil) before the installation of the present, low-relief and gently undulating coastal plain. Landwards, the paleodrainage system mapped from the seismic records can be linked with the present course of the Camaquã River. Oceanwards, it can be connected with the system of paleochannels recognized by previous studies in the adjacent continental shelf and slope by means of seismic and morphostructural data. Landwards, the drainage was incised into the coastal prism deposited during previous sea level highstand events of the Quaternary. The paleodrainage path recognized on the coastal plain and inferred to the adjacent continental shelf represents a river-shelf system, linking the continental drainage basin to the depositional settings on the marginal basin, bypassing the continental shelf exposed during a forced regression event.A análise de registros sísmicos de alta resolução (3,5 e 7,0 kHz), obtidos na Lagoa dos Patos, revelou a presença de diversos canais soterrados que dissecaram profundamente a zona costeira do Rio Grande do Sul (Sul do Brasil) antes do estabelecimento da superfície baixa e levemente ondulada daplanície costeira atual. Em direção ao continente, o sistema de paleodrenagem mapeado de registros sísmicos pode ser vinculado ao curso atual do Rio Camaquã. À jusante, ele pode ser conectado com sistemas de paleocanais da plataforma continental adjacente e talude continental, reconhecidos em trabalhos anteriores através de estudos sísmicos e morfoestruturais. À montante, a drenagem foi escavada no prisma costeiro depositado durante eventos prévios de nível de mar alto do Quaternário. O caminhoda paleodrenagem, reconhecida na planície costeira e plataforma continental adjacente, representa um sistema fluvial-plataformal ligando a bacia de drenagem continental aos depocentros da bacia marginal, atravessando a plataforma continental exposta durante um evento de regressão forçada
