Evangelische Indianermission: a IECLB e a missão entre os índios

This paper analyzes the practice of evangelical mission among the native populations within the context of modernization, which was traversing the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The IECLB missions attempt started in 1900 and finished in 1904. In 1886, the Lutheran Church was officially organized in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and institutionalized the “Sínodo Rio-Grandense”, which had its headquarter in the city of São Leopoldo/RS. It is intended to investigate the development and practice of the “Estatuto da Sociedade Evangelische Indianermission” created by the Church in 1904, led by Pastor Rotermund who was a big enthusiastic of practice mission among the natives. This document indicated the instructions for the religious, the way these should undertake missionary work. Furthermore, it is intended to understand the relationship between the State Government, the IELCB and the proposal of mission among the Indians in the context of discussions on the policies and practices for the indigenous populations in the early twentieth century in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.O presente trabalho analisa a prática da missão evangélica entre as populações nativas, dentro de um contexto de modernização que perpassava o Rio Grande do Sul no início do século XX. A tentativa de missão da IECLB vai de 1900 até o ano de 1904. Em 1886, a Igreja Luterana se organizava oficialmente no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul e institucionalizava o Sínodo Rio-Grandense, que tinha como sede a cidade de São Leopoldo/RS. Pretende-se averiguar a elaboração e a prática do “Estatuto da Sociedade Evangelische Indianermission”, criado pela Igreja em 1904, tendo à frente o Pastor Rotermund que fora um grande entusiasta na prática da missão entre os nativos. Esse documento indicava as instruções para os religiosos, mostrando a forma como estes deveriam empreender a obra missionária. Pretende-se entender ainda a articulação entre o Governo Estadual, a IELCB e a proposta de missão entre os índios no contexto das discussões em torno das políticas e práticas para as populações indígenas no início do século XX no Rio Grande do Sul
