This article proposes the discussion of the development of music education as a science, using empirical research as an example. After reviewing the situation of musical-pedagogical research in Germany since the 1970s, the author emphasizes themes such as methodological pluralism in the face of the complexity of the object of study, discussion of investigation paradigms, and the necessity of scientific formation of music teachers. It concludes with an analysis of the possible implications of a policy of diffusion of the research results, focusing on the relevance and the need of praxis-oriented research in music education. In this respect, a critical and continuing evaluation of results becomes mandatory for a research policy in this field....
