Mercado de trabalho: perfil do acadêmico de odontologia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

The purpose of this study was to understand when the profession was chosen, trying to perceive the implication of social and personal involvement in this context. The study also tried to demonstrate how inter and intra personal relations work and how the feelings that influence the process of professional choosing are related to the students ' expectations toward the future profession. In an attempt to define a profile of the sixth semester (third year)dental student in the Dental School of Porto Alegre, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, a questionnaire was answered by the students since the year of 1998 until 2001. It was applied during class at the Professional Economy class, of the Department of Social Dentistry. Results: 75% of the students have choosen this profession because it is a private practice and by vocation; 62% of the students look for personal satisfaction; the great majority of the students didn't choose the speciality and 57% want to work right after graduation in private dental offices or clinics alone or sharing with colleagues.A proposta deste estudo foi compreender o momento da escolha profissional, buscando perceber a implicação de fenômenos sociais e pessoais estabelecidos neste contexto. A investigação procurou, também, evidenciar como as relações inter e intrapessoais, as percepções e os sentimentos influenciam o processo de escolha profissional e suas expectativas em relação à profissão no futuro. Para isso, na tentativa de traçar um perfil do acadêmico de odontologia da FOUFRGS, realizou-se um questionário com alunos do 6°semestre, anos 1998, 1999, 2000 e 2001, na disciplina de Economia Profissional, do Departamento de Odontologia Preventiva e Social. Os questionários foram preenchidos em sala de aula, ao final de cada semestre, e o processo de análise permitiu a interpretação dos seguintes resultados básicos: 75% dos acadêmicos fizeram a escolha por ser uma profissão liberal e por vocação; 62% dos estudantes buscam satisfação pessoal; a maioria absoluta alega que não escolheu a especialização que deseja fazer e 57% desejam trabalhar, logo após a formatura, em consultório próprio individual, consultório compartilhado ou clínica própria compartilhada
