ESTUDO BIBLIOMÉTRICO SOBRE A TEORIA INSTITUCIONAL: UMA CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA PRODUÇÃO CIENTÍFICA BRASILEIRA

Institutional theory is an important topic among organizations. This concept is key and deals with the continuity of social groups in the organizational environment, because there is a consensus about the institutions affecting the behavior of social actors. This study aims to define the different ways in which the institutional theory has being used on theoretical or empirical research in order to denote how the theory is applied in organizations. The objective of this study is to identify the state of the art of Brazilian scientific production in the area of institutional theory through the main journals from the electronic library database SPELL® Scientific Electronic Library Periodicals in the areas of management, accounting and tourism, in the period from 2005 to 2015 and have the institutionalist approach in its scope. The research, based on bibliometric study presents a mapping of institutional theory highlighting the following points: evolution of scientific production, profile of most published authors, methodological aspects, key theories and concepts of the institutional approach, related topics, types of studied organizations and classification QUALIS / CAPES from Brazilian scientific production related to the topic. The results indicate that on despite of the new institutionalism is considered one of the most influential theoretical approaches in contemporary political science, particularly in studies on public policy, the old institutionalism approach is still the most studied. The most used type of research is the qualitative due to the difficulties of dealing with the institutional approach from the quantitative perspective, and the development of institutional theory in publications is increasing, demonstrating the continuity of relevance for this topic for the scientific community and the most studied organizations were from the public sector confirming previous studies.A teoria institucional é um tema relevante nas organizações. É conceito chave que trata da continuidade dos grupos sociais no ambiente, pois existe um consenso de que as instituições afetam o comportamento de atores sociais. O presente trabalho busca delimitar os caminhos que a teoria institucional tem tomado quanto à sua utilização em pesquisas teóricas ou empíricas no sentido de denotar como esta teoria é aplicada nas organizações. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é identificar o estado da arte da produção cientifica brasileira na área da teoria institucional através dos principais periódicos pertencentes ao banco de dados da biblioteca eletrônica SPELL® Scientific Periodicals Electronic Library nas áreas de conhecimento de administração, contabilidade e turismo no período de 2005 a 2015 que possuem a abordagem institucionalista no seu escopo. A pesquisa, baseada no estudo bibliométrico, apresenta um mapeamento da teoria institucional destacando os seguintes elementos: evolução da produção cientifica, perfil dos autores que mais publicam, aspectos metodológicos, teorias e conceitos chaves da abordagem institucional, temas correlatos, tipos de organizações estudadas e classificação QUALIS/CAPES da produção cientifica brasileira referente ao tema. Os resultados indicam que apesar do novo institucionalismo ser considerado uma das abordagens teóricas mais influentes na ciência política contemporânea, em especial nos estudos sobre políticas públicas, a abordagem do velho institucionalismo ainda é a mais estudada. A tipologia de pesquisa mais utilizada é a qualitativa devido as dificuldades existentes de tratar a abordagem institucional pela perspectiva quantitativa, e a evolução das publicações em teoria institucional é crescente, demonstrando a continuidade da relevância do tema para comunidade cientifica e as organizações mais estudadas foram a do setor público confirmando estudos anteriores
