István Láng, member of HAS, presented questions of environmental protection and sustainable development in a historical and international context. The concept of sustainable development was formed in a series of conferences and international initiatives. It aims at integrating environmental and economic policies, and was turned into an action plan codified in international agreements at the Rio Conference in 1992. These agreements require the enforcement of human, social and ecological requirements as opposed to traditional cultures of production and consumption.
