Life after release from prison

Release from prison does not represent the end of their sentence for everyone. For many people, the severity of the sanction will become apparent when they try to put their lives back on track. It is then that many aggravating factors may come to the fore, manifesting themselves as negative consequences of serving prison time in a total institution and influencing the quality of former prisoner’s further lives. In the theoretical portion of her graduate thesis, the author presents important variables that may influence the life of former prisoners upon their release. In the empirical part she explores these variables as seen through the eyes of her interviewee, a man with experience of release from a long-time prison sentence
