The ability to write words and texts entering the first grade of elementary school

A man is becoming literate over a longer period of time. From an early age we are spontaneously and informally becoming familiar with reading and writing. The beginning of school education is the start of formal literacy process that is taking place in a planned and systematic way. The purpose of this empirical research was to determine the ability of children to write words (name) and texts (greetings, list) at the beginning of the first grade of nine-year elementary school and to determine if that depends on children’s gender, their place of residence (city or village), parents’ education and the presence of older siblings. The study included 180 first graders: 50 boys and 58 girls who came from rural areas as well as they came from the cities. The results obtained indicated that the most of the children can write their name at the beginning of the school, the most of them are also able to write a greeting or a list.
