Strategy and aid modalities by selective mutism child in kindergarten and school: case study In the theoretical part, characteristics of children with selective mutism and definitions of this disorder as viewed by different authors are presented. This section acquaints us with various effective strategies and ways of helping children suffering from selective mutism. It points out guidelines and approaches for successful help by parents, people working in the field of education and schooling as well as special pedagogues who provide help to these children, mostly within individualised programmes. The successfulness of reaching goals within such individualised programmes largely depends on well-defined steps, which is why this part contains some theoretical guidelines and starting points necessary for the preparation of these steps. The empirical part presents a systematic implementation of help illustrated by a concrete example of a child with selective mutism. The described study case contains detailed descriptions of sessions with the child, along with evaluations. For nearly one year, the little girl in question received help at her home, kindergarten and elementary school. A child suffering from selective mutism can make good progress in defeating this disorder if the process of help includes people who are in daily contact with the child and who can contribute to better communication of this child with the environment by means of various approaches, ways and methods.
