The aim of the study is to investigate the experience of a municipal elementary school in São Paulo in welcoming immigrant students. Data collection was conducted through interviews with the principal, pedagogical coordinator, teachers and Bolivian immigrant parents; classroom observations, break time and project meetings for immigrant students; application of student proximity scale and analysis of school performance. The results showed that, in the perception of professionals and parents, there was a significant reduction in the manifestations of prejudice and discrimination, as well as greater interaction among students.
