The concentration of Total Suspended Matter (TSM) in shallow coastal waters is known to vary by over a factor two at short timescales (<3h) because of horizontal advection and/or vertical resuspension forced by tides or winds. Ocean Colour sensors on board polar-orbiting platforms typically provide only 1or 2 images per day. A significant increase in temporal resolution of satellite-derived TSM data becomes possible from geostationary satellites.
