Marital satisfaction of visual impairment couples

The current study highlights on the challenges, coping strategies, and future hopes of visually impaired couples in Malaysia. Studies on marital satisfaction of visually impaired couples are scarce in the country; hence, this study provides the information on visually impaired couples in the Malaysian context. The current research was conducted qualitatively; hence, 4 respondents were interviewed voluntarily. Three main themes that emerged from the research are the challenges, the coping strategies, and the future hopes of the visually impaired couples. The current study found that visually impaired couples faced challenges including family, communication, and social pressure. It was also found that visually impaired couples demonstrated three ways of coping with the challenges, which are through discussion and opinion, embracing love, and tolerance. Lastly, their future hopes are long-lasting marriage, welfare for blind people, and life of faith. Four respondents of visually impaired couples were interviewed face-to-face in the study. Recommendations for future research were also discussed
