The author comments on eight species belonging to the foraminiferal family Soritidae occurring in or in the neighbourhood of the reefal system of Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Distribution of these species is discussed and taxonomic notes are given for each of them. Structural evidence for considering the two Marginopora-variants as belonging to the same species is discussed, and the dropping the denomination Marginopora 'laciniata' is proposed
