The American jackknife clam Ensis directus (Conrad, 1843) is for the first time recorded from the Belgian coast. There are three records of beach washed specimen: two from Oostduinkerke (2-IV-1987: 2 spec. and 15-V-1987: 1 spec.) and one from Zeebrugge (10-IV-1987: 2 spec.)
