Hintergrund: Mesenchymale Progenitorzellen (MPCs; Synonym: mesenchymale Stammzellen, MSC) besitzen die Eigenschaft sich in verschiedene Gewebe zu differenzieren. Diese MPCs können heute in einer Vielzahl von Geweben sowohl des adulten als auch des fetalen Organismus nachgewiesen werden. Ihre Anzahl ist jedoch sehr gering. Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung sollte überprüft werden, in wie weit MPCs oder MPC-ähnliche Zellen in der humanen Nabelschnur nachweisbar sind.
