Influences of household structure and business cycle on time allocation: an empirical analysis

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit werden verschiedene Elemente ökonomischer Analyse gemeinsam verwendet, um einen stärkeren Blick in das ökonomische Verhalten von Haushalten zu ermöglichen. In der mikroökonomischen Theorie wird Haushaltsarbeit nur in seltenen Fällen als dritte Alternative Zeitverwendungsform in die Analyse einbezogen. Dies wird im Rahmen dieser Arbeit verwendet, um alternative Argumente in die Schätzgleichungen für Zeitallokation und Arbeitsangebot zu integrieren. In den weiteren Kapiteln dieses Buches werden die Zeitallokationsaspekte kombiniert mit makroökonomischen Daten, welche den Konjunkturzyklus abbilden sollen, um den Zusammenhang zwischen Konjunkturzyklus, Lohnhöhe und Zeitallokation zu bestimmen. Es wird gezeigt, dass, da die Lohndaten kaum auf den Zyklus reagieren auch die Zeitallokation nahezu nicht durch Veränderungen im Konjunkturzyklus verändert wird.This work combines different aspects of economic analysis in order to give a greater insight into the behaviour of households. In microeconomic theory the dichotomy of labour and leisure as the two alternative choices in time allocation is only in rare approaches combined with household work as a third alternative way of spending the time available. In this work these approaches are used in arguing for different arguments in estimating equations for labor supply and time allocation. In the later chapters of this book time allocation aspects are matched to macroeconomic business cycle data to measure the influences of business cycles on wages and time allocation. It is shown that as wages are hardly cyclical in the German time allocation data time allocation also is hardly altered by changes in the business cycle
