In der Mund-, Kiefer-, Gesichtschirurgie wurden in den letzten Jahren zunehmend alternative Methoden zur Knochenbearbeitung eingesetzt. Die Ultraschallosteotomie, bei welcher der Knochen durch Applikation hochfrequente elektromechanische Schwingungen geschnitten wird, ist ein solches Verfahren. Ziel dieser Studie war es, das Ultraschallosteotomieinstrument Piezosurgery (Mectron Medical Technology, Italien) mit der konventionellen Kugelfräse im Hinblick auf Weichgewebsschädigung des Nervus alveolaris inferior, nach Osteotomie eines Knochenfensters im Schweinekiefer, zu vergleichen.
