Trotz erheblicher Fortschritte auf dem Gebiet der Strahlentherapie ist es bis heute noch nicht möglich, die Strahlenempfindlichkeit eines Individuums bereits vor Therapiebeginn vorherzusagen. Diese Tatsache führt dazu, dass es einerseits bei einem Teil der Patienten zu starken Nebenwirkungen infolge einer Bestrahlung kommt und andererseits die Therapie oftmals nicht in ausreichendem Maße anspricht. Die Entwicklung eines verlässlichen prädiktiven Tests stellt daher ein wichtiges Ziel der strahlentherapeutischen Forschung dar und stand auch im Zentrum dieser Arbeit.
