The soil structure and the hydraulic properties of the top soil layer control water exchanges between the soil and the atmosphere. We used L-band radiometry to infer the hydraulic properties of the top layer of three field plots with different soil structure.The structure of the surface layer of the soil is strongly influenced by soil tillage practices, with important consequences for the hydraulic properties and soil moisture dynamics in the top soil layer.
