IntroductionThe ubiquitous abundance of pyrolysed, highly aromatic organic matter, called “Black Carbon” (BC), became increasingly important also beyond atmospheric aerosol: its predominant high resistance to abiotic and biotic degradation resulted in turnover times from less than a century to several millennia.
