This dissertation proposes a theoretical approach on some issues related to children's literature, based on an analysis of Lygia Bojunga's The Yellow Handbook (1976/2015), taking as a background psychoanalytic theory, the aesthetics of reception, the sociology of childhood and the theories and critiques of children's literature. Among several questions, some of them were indispensable to the delineation of the present research: what can be considered as "childhood"? What delimits a so-called children's literature? How does the reading process carried out by a child occur? Is it possible to consider that creative reading has similarities to playing?
