Economia e criminalidade: uma avaliação dos custos da violência para o município de Governador Valadares-MG

Violence has become a growing problem, reaching all social strata and generating negative externalities, such as misallocation of public resources and price distortion, as well as influencing the decision-making process of economic agents. Therefore, the objective of this study is to measure and analyze the socioeconomic costs generated by intentional violence against third parties, in the municipality of Governador Valadares, for the year 2015. It is believed that the high levels of violence in the municipality are correlated with current socioeconomic vulnerabilities present in this territory. Through the counting method, public costs, private costs and social losses resulting from violence in the municipality were measured. As a result, it was found that the aggregate value of these three cost categories, in the year 2015, reached approximately R $ 316 million, or the equivalent of 5.8% of municipal GDP for that year.A violência tem se tornado problema crescente, atingindotodas as camadas sociaisegerandoexternalidades negativas, como má alocação dos recursos públicos e a distorção de preços, além de influenciar o processo de tomada de decisão dos agentes econômicos. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é mensurar e analisar os custos socioeconômicos gerados pela violência intencional contra terceiros, no município de Governador Valadares,para o ano de 2015. Acredita-se que os altos índices de violência do município estejam correlacionados às vulnerabilidades socioeconômicas atuaismarcantes presentes neste território. Atravésdo método da contagem foram mensurados os custos públicos, os custos privados e as perdas sociais decorrentes da violência no município. Como resultado encontrou-se que o valor agregado destas três categorias de custo, no ano de 2015, chegou a aproximadamente R$ 316 milhões, ou o equivalente a 5,8% do PIB municipal para aquele ano
