This thesis aims at analyzing the African-Brazilian religion known as Umbanda and the religious syncretism between the members of Umbanda and the members of Candomblé in the backyard of Carlinhos Cabral, Father of Oxum. We analyze the major changes in the physical space, symbols, rituals and relationships of the subject of faith in the yard with the arrival of Candomblé to this sacred place.
