Aim: To do an exploration of the processes of construction of knowledge in relation to the sociofamilial particularities of deaf subjects. Method: A mixed design was used; four deaf youths, aged between 14 and 24, as well as their guardians participated. Semi-structured interviews, the WAIS-III and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test –WCST– were used to collect the data. Results: The results showed that subjects with higher performance in the use of the Colombian sign language have gained more support from their families and are those who obtained higher performance in the tests applied.
