At Forschungszentrum Julich, glass-ceramic materials from the BaO-CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-system are used to join high temperature fuel cell stacks. Requirements for the sealant and characterisation of the glasses are shown in this paper. Characterisation is done in three steps: determination of glass properties, characterisation of the glass to metal joint and application in fuel cell stacks
