Using metallographic, diffraction and thermal analysis examinations the base centered orthorhombic Al-4(Cr,Fe) phase reported by Sui et al. (Philos Mag Lett 1995;71:139) was found to be a ternary extension of the Al-Cr eta-phase. The constitution of the Al-Cr-Fe alloy system was specified in a compositional region close to this phase.
