The Al-Ir phase diagram was specified in the range between 65 and 90 at.% Al. We confirmed the congruent melting of the Al2.7Ir phase, which forms a eutectic with AlIr. At higher Al concentrations four intermediate phases were found to be formed by a cascade of peritectic reactions: Al3Ir at 1466 degrees C, Al28Ir9 at 1446 degrees C, Al45Ir13 at 993 degrees C and Al9Ir2 at 877 degrees C.
