A Study on the Becoming-Subject and Time in Yi Sangs Literature

학위논문(석사)--서울대학교 대학원 :인문대학 국어국문학과,2019. 8. 신범순.This study aims to reveal the positivity of Yi Sangs Literature with the concept of Becoming which can clarify the unique aesthetics of his works. Also this appeals for reconsideration of the negativity toward life or reality, which is frequently mentioned as an essential character of Yi Sangs Literature. This study keeps distant from emphasizing the negativity based on the regime of representation because it can minimize the singularity of literature. The concept of Becoming is related to the poetics of Kim Kirim in 1930s. Especially he criticized the representative function of language and defines the essential nature of poetic language and world as changeability, which is closely related to the concept of Becoming. The feature of Yi Sangs poetic language can also be clarified by this concept. In this study the philosophical concept of Becoming is defined by the following two elements. First, the human subject is not immovable or of fixed nature but changeable because of multiple (un)conscious powers and instincts. Second, the time of Becoming is defined as interbelonging between past, presence, and future. This concept is opposed to a model of linear time image. To be specific the purpose of chapter 2 is to answer the question, who is the subject of Yi Sangs texts? Chapter 2.1. focuses on the texts from the early to the middle period(1932-1933), which show the project of his shifting from the colonial architect Kim Hae Kyung to Yi Sang as an artist. In conclusion the subject of Yi Sangs texts can not be reduced to a personalized being, Kim Hae Kyung but can be said to be an aesthetic subject, who is becoming an artist by the practice of writing. The main features of these texts are repeated announcements of the death of a previous life and the creation of a new life. Chapter 2.2. deals with the aspect of the Becoming-subject Yi Sang in the way of a cooperative action which includes other writers. In the middle period of writing Yi Sang joined into the literary group Kuinhoe(九人會) and entered a new phase of making deep relationships with other writers such as Jung Jiyong, Kim Kirim, and Park Taewon. The relationship of Kuinhoe is characterized by pursuing both individuality and intercommunity as opposed to a gathering of people who must share the same ideology. To specify this hypothesis, Poetry and Novel(詩와 小說), the journal of Kuinhoe, should be examined first. The works in this journal show that the Kuinhoe writers share similar motifs like the artist who runs through the modern street but in very different ways. Secondly, the texts in which the writers call upon and cite each other as artists show that their artistic self consciousness is not just individual thing but co-constructive. The process of co-writing which constructed and insured this artistic self consciousness shows that the project of Becoming-artist of Yi Sang was also an interactive practice. Such work integrating art into life can be said to be avant garde in 1930s Korea. Chapter 3 explains how the Becoming-subject is specified into an image. First the Alter ego motif of Yi Sang is examined in chapter 3.1. The Alter ego motif is originated from the novel 12th December(「十二月十二日」) and the series of poems The Third Angle Projection(「三次角設計圖」) and progressed in two different ways. The former sequences, including the poem Mirror, can described as a negative alter ego which implies the negativity of the modern world by showing the contraction between the subject and the world. The latter one shows the creativity of the Becoming-subject. A representative example is an animal ego like a dog(獚) or an insect. These egos symbolize the otherness inside the human being and take on the role of creation. It connects to the concept of Poisesis(the root word of poem), which says that the origin of creative power comes from breaking the limits of something humane and meeting with otherness, such as something animal. Next in chapter 3.2. the body image is examined to look through the Becoming-subject. The body image in Yi Sangs texts cant be understood as an immovable one. Rather it is presented like a changing body with multiple (un)conscious powers and instincts(Empty Stomach(｢空腹｣), The 11th Poem of The Bird-eyes View(「烏瞰圖 詩 第 11號」, A Sad Story-During Two Weeks- etc.). The organs of the body are described as independent creatures and the main question proposed here is how to make the separated and solid state of body organs into a joined and combined state. This theme develops into images like an expanding and reforming body which goes beyond the individual bodys limits. Then chapter 4 moves into the theme of time. It aims to examine how the ideas and images of time of Becoming developed. The idea of the time of Becoming starts in the The Third Angle Projection(「三次角設計圖」), in an aphoristic style. First this idea works as a criteria to criticize the modern time image which cannot measure the Becoming world. Second it generates unique time images, like a body-past image which shows that the past does not cease to exist. The existence of the past helps to feel the essence of time and make the present full, but in an other way it burdens Yi Sang in the form of History, or history of family. Related to this, it can be said that the purpose of the journey to SeongCheon(成川) in his latter years was to make a new relationship with the past and find a new insight for starting a new life. The SeongCheon texts including The First Wanderings raise the question what to forget and what to remember in order to make bearable the fall of history and his life into a catastrophe. Chapter 4.2. shows more precisely that the repetitive performance of writing-SeongCheon is related to the purpose of overcoming the fall of history and searching the Time of Becoming. Two main SeongCheon texts, Journey to Mountain Village(｢山村餘情｣) and Boredom(｢倦怠｣), show how different time images are created by the activation of the time of Becoming. Consequently the purpose of repetitive writing about SeongCheon can be said to overcome the emptiness of historical time, by shifting the fossilized past into the coexistence of past and present so that one can search the way out of history falling into a catastrophe.본고는 생성을 이상 문학 특유의 미학적 성격을 해명하기 위한 개념으로 삼아 이상 문학의 긍정성을 규명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이는 그간 이상 문학의 본질적 성격으로 지적되어 온 부정성, 요컨대 삶 혹은 현실에 대한 부정이라는 틀에 대한 재고를 요청하는 것이기도 하다. 재현의 논리에 입각한 현실의 부정성에 대한 독해가 문학의 특이성을 축소시키는 일이 될 것이라는 문제의식 하에 본고의 논의는 출발한다. 식민지 시기 생성에 대한 시적 사유는 김기림의 시론에서 그 단초가 보이는 바, 언어의 재현적 기능을 의문시하고 세계와 시적 언어의 특징을 유동성으로서 규정한 김기림의 사유는 생성의 개념과 긴밀한 연관이 있다. 이상이 구사하는 시적 언어의 주된 특징 역시 이러한 개념으로 해명될 수 있다. 생성의 관점에서 주체는 고정된 정체성으로 규정되지 않고 미지의 다수적인 힘으로 변화되어가는 주체로서 정의될 수 있고, 시간성은 과거와 현재와 미래가 선형적이고 정적인 관계에 놓이는 것이 아니라 공속적으로 관계하는 것으로 정의된다. 이러한 관점을 바탕으로 2.장에서는 이상 문학 텍스트의 주체란 누구인가라는 질문을 해명하는 것을 목표로 두었다. 먼저 2.1.절에서는 이상 문학의 초기에서 중기에 이르는 시기(1932-1933)를 이루는 텍스트를 검토하며, 이 시기 총독부 기사 김해경으로부터 이상이라는 예술가로 자신을 변모시키려는 기획이 실천된 시기였음을 살핀다. 결론적으로 이상 텍스트의 주체란 단일한 하나의 인격체인 김해경으로 환원되지 않고 텍스트 쓰기에 의해 생성되는 미적 주체로서의 이상이라 할 수 있다. 이전의 삶에 대한 부고를 선언하고 새로운 삶으로 전환하고자 하는 구도의 반복은 이 시기 텍스트의 주된 특징이다. 이러한 2.1.절의 논의를 토대로 2.2절에서는 이상 문학의 이상의 생성이 타자가 개입되는 공동의 실천으로 이루어진 맥락을 다루었다. 이상 문학에서 중기에 해당하는 이 시기 이상의 문단 활동은 구인회에 가입하게 되고 정지용, 김기림, 박태원 등과의 교우 관계를 맺는 것으로 새로운 국면을 맞이한다. 이때 이들 예술가 간의 관계 맺음의 특징은 이들이 공통의 이념성으로 결집된 것이 아니라 개별성과 공통성이 함께 추구되는 관계 맺음의 양상을 보여준다는 점이다. 이를 살펴보기 위해 먼저 이들이 공통으로 발전시킨 모티프인 거리를 질주하는 예술가를 구인회 기관지 시와 소설의 텍스트들을 통해 확인할 필요가 있다. 둘째로는 서로를 예술가로 호명하고 인용하는 텍스트들을 통해 이를 알 수 있는데, 요컨대 이들의 예술가적 자의식이 단순히 개별적인 것이 아니라는 상호적인 구축물임을 보여준다. 이때 후자 즉 텍스트 쓰기를 통한 예술가적 자의식의 구축 및 상호 보증 과정은 이상의 예술가 되기라는 실천이 공동체적 실천이기도 했음을 보여준다. 삶과 예술을 일치시키려는 이러한 작업은 1930년대 문학 장에서 이루어진 아방가르드적 실천이라는 문학사적 의의를 가진다. 다음으로 3장은 주체의 생성이 이미지로 구현된 양상을 검토하는 것을 목표로 한다. 우선 3.1.절에서는 분신 모티프를 통해 이를 확인할 수 있다. 분신 모티프는 ｢12월12일｣과 ｢삼차각설계도｣ 연작을 두 시발점으로 삼아 서로 다른 양상으로 전개된다. 먼저 전자의 계열은 주체와 세계의 불화를 통해 근대 세계의 부정성을 드러내는 부정적인 분신들에 해당하고, 이에는 ｢거울｣ 시편 등이 속한다. 한편 후자의 계열은 주체의 창조성을 보여주는 분신에 해당한다. 대표적으로 황이나 곤충과 같은 동물 분신들은 인간 내부의 타자로서 잠재된 동물성의 형상으로, 글쓰기 즉 창조를 담당하는 분신으로 이상 텍스트에서 재차 등장하게 된다. 이는 인간이 인간적인 것의 한계를 벗어나 타자 즉 동물적인 것과 접속하는 데서 창조력의 원천을 보는 시(포이에시스)의 근본 의미와 접맥한다. 3.2.절에서는 육체 이미지 분석을 중심으로 주체의 생성적 특징을 살핀다. 이상 문학에서 육체는 고정된 형상으로 파악될 수 없고 다수적이고 (무)의식적인 힘과 충동들로 변화 중인 육체로 나타난다(｢공복｣, ｢시 제 11호｣, ｢슬픈 이야기-어떤 두 주일 동안-｣ 등). 육체 기관들이 서로 독립된 존재로 그려지는 가운데, 여기서 제출된 주요한 문제의식은 각 개체 간의 단절되고 경화된 상태가 만남과 결합의 상태로 전환되어야 한다는 점이다. 이러한 문제의식이 발전하여 육체 기관이 다른 사물과 접속함으로써 변용되고 확장되는 이미지가 산출된다. 4장에서는 생성의 원리가 작동된 양상을 시간의 문제를 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 생성적 시간에 대한 사유는 일찍이 ｢삼차각설계도｣ 연작에서 아포리즘적으로 제출된 바, 4.1.절에서는 이러한 본래적 시간에 대한 사유가 생성을 측정하지 못하는 근대적 시간에 대한 비판의 준거점으로 작동하는 한편, 특유의 과거/역사 이미지를 산출했음을 살폈다. 예컨대 육체를 통해 가시화되는 시간 이미지는 사라지지 않는 과거의 존재성을 드러낸다. 그런데 과거의 존재성은 시간의 지속을 느끼게 하고 현재를 충만하게 하는 한편, 역사 혹은 가족사의 형태로 과업처럼 주어지는 것이기도 하다. 말년에 이루어진 성천 기행의 중요한 목적 중 하나는 이러한 과거와의 관계를 재수립하고 문학적 활로를 찾기 위한 것으로, ｢첫번째 방랑｣ 등의 성천 텍스트에서는 무엇을 망각하고 무엇을 기억함으로써 파국으로 향하는 역사의 시간을 견딜 것인가라는 질문이 제기된다. 4.2.절에서는 이상의 작품 활동 후기에 해당하는 시기에 반복적으로 이루어진 성천-쓰기의 작업이 역사의 극복과 생성적인 시간성에 대한 희구라는 문제와 관련되어 있다는 가설을 보다 구체적으로 입증하고자 한다. ｢산촌여정｣과 ｢권태｣라는 두 대표적인 성천 텍스트 간의 차이는 생성적 시간성이 활성화되었는지의 여부에 의해 나타남을 여러 시간 이미지들을 중심으로 분석한다. 요컨대 반복적인 성천-쓰기의 과정은 쇠락해가는 역사의 시간을 극복할 수 있는 시간성을 모색하는 과정이나 다름없었으며, 이상은 화석화된 과거를 과거와 현재가 호흡하는 시간성으로 전환시킴으로써 그러한 파국적 상황을 이겨내고자 했다.1. 서론 1 1.1 연구사 검토 및 문제제기 1 1.2. 연구의 시각 15 2. 아방가르드적 실천으로서의 예술가-되기 32 2.1. 이상이라는 예술가 주체의 창조 32 2.2. 구인회와 이상, 예술가-되기의 공동 실천 49 3. 생성을 통한 주체 이미지의 다변화 63 3.1. 분신 모티프의 분화 양상과 동물 분신의 의미 63 3.2. 생성의 장(場)으로서의 육체와 변용의 양상 80 4. 시간 이미지의 특징과 생성적 시간성 모색 90 4.1. 생성을 무화하는 시계 시간과 생성적 시간 이미지 90 4.2. 성천-쓰기에 나타난 시간성의 문제 112 5. 결론 129Maste
