Energy consumption and economic growth in Kazakhstan

Heo, Eunnyeong.There has been a lot of work done previously by researchers to find the relationship between the energy consumption and economic growth of different countries. However, in the case of Kazakhstan this problem has not been sufficiently well researched, mostly due to data limitations. This study tries to investigate the causal relationship between energy use and the economic growth of the Republic of Kazakhstan, starting from its independence until the present. The modeling strategy used in this study is based on the Granger causality from vector error correction model, augmented Dickey-Fuller and Phillips-Perron tests, unit root test and cointegration test. The results showed the existence of a unidirectional causality running from energy consumption to economic growth in the long run and a unidirectional causality running from economic growth to energy causality in the short term.Maste
