Emissions of floor structures during building phase and the indoor air quality of a new office building

In constructing a new office building for the Allergy and Asthma Association, the materials were chosen according to the Finnish Classification of Finishing Materials in order to optimise the indoor air quality in the building. The emission behaviour of two types of floor structures, a concrete floor cast on the site, and a cored concrete slab in the neighbouring room were followed during the building phase. At the point of time when the building was completed and occupied, indoor air quality (IAQ) measurements were performed as well as emission measurements of the flooring material. The emission test of the flooring material to be installed had been performed separately in the laboratory according to the classification. The study brought new information on the behaviour of materials during the building phase and on the emission behaviour of a classified material measured in a real building compared to the chamber testing
