Fuel properties affecting combustion as well as the mechanism of chlorine accelerated corrosion in combustion of wood fuels have been studied in fluidised bed environment. Experiments have been conducted in, both test facilities, and in industrial-scale power plant boilers including the world's largest (550 MWth) biofuel CHP plant operated by Ahlholmens kraft Ltd. The objective is to define the optimum share of wood fuels in the fuel blend and safe combustion conditions for fuel blends in question in order to improve the control of chlorine accelerated corrosion, deposit formation and gaseous emissions.
