Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy is a progressive genetic disease of the myocardium characterized by myocardial atrophy and fibro-fatty replacement of the ventricular myocardium. It has familial recurrence in about 50% of cases with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance, with incomplete penetrance and with great phenotypic variability. It is considered one of the main causes of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young people and athletes. Diagnosis is based on the 2010 Task Force criteria and includes genetic analysis and investigation of characteristic morpho-functional anomalies through electrocardiogram, echocardiography, magnetic resonance, endomyocardial biopsy and voltage mapping.
