Penelitian mengenai sintesis litium mangan oksdia (LiMn2O4) sebagai material katoda baterai ion litium telah berhasil dilakukan. Baterai ion litium merupakan salah satu teknologi untuk menyimpan dan menghasilkan energi yang banyak digunakan dalam berbagai alat elektronik. Pembuatan katoda LiMn2O4 dimulai dengan melindih serbuk batuan yang mengandung mangan menggunakan asam fluorida (HF) dan asam nitrat (HNO3) untuk meningkatkan kadar MnO2. Hasil pelindihan dioptimasi menggunakan Respon Surface Methodology (RSM) dengan desain Box-Behnken dan dihasilkan kondisi optimum pada komposisi 1,5 gram serbuk batuan mangan dilindih dengan 20 mL HNO3 pada suhu 60 °C selama 6 jam.
