Cette thèse s'intègre dans le contexte des « gestes Médico-Chirurgicaux Assistés par Ordinateur » et concerne plus précisément l'aide informatisé au traitement par curiethérapie du cancer de la prostate. Ce traitement effectué sous contrôle d'images ultrasonores (séries de coupes 2D ou volumiques) consiste à insérer un certain nombre de grains radioactifs (cylindres de 0,8x4,5mm) grâce à des aiguilles introduites dans le corps du patient. Le nombre et la position de ces grains sont déterminés de façon très précise afin de délivrer une certaine dose de radiations à la prostate tout en garantissant des contraintes de dose maximum à des structures anatomiques à risque (urètre, rectum notamment).
